Spyware wasted my day.
Today started all wrong.
Logging in to my PC took ages.. And i mean ages.
At first i thought the Antivirus was running. That resource consuming scheduled full system scan that I’m running.
A quick look at my process list, showed me that this wasn’t my antivirus engine that took all of the cpu. It was a number of unrecognized processes that were working at full steam.
I fired up my internet explorer, to search google for the process names. To my surprise, my homepage (Security Focus) did not load. Instead, this weird site with too many ads showed. Now this is not something i would expect to see. Mind you that it all took a long time, as my host slowed down to a crawl.
Spyware. Yup, i got myself a host full of spyware. How did this happen you ask? Well i figured out this question right away. My niece stayed over for the weekend. She got a little bored, so i let her use my computer. A few hours later, and my PC is full of junk. What can you do?
My first task was to kill the processes and wipe them out from my system. I spent a few hours trying to do so. These things get really sophisticated. This was so time consuming, that i knew what i had to do. I need a product that will do this for me. Spend a few dollars now for some peace of mind and it will save you the hassle later on.
I came around to a wonderful product by ParetoLogic. This product had good reviews online, so i wanted to give it a shot.
A quick purchase process, and i was able to download the full version. Here is the features list as they show on their website:
Key features of this software:
* Complete PC scanning, including running processes, registry entries, files and folders
* Detects and removes: adware, spyware, pop-Up generators, keyloggers, trojans, hijackers, and malware
* One of the largest spyware definition databases in the industry
* Automatic definition and feature updates
* Fast, powerful, and easy to use
* Comprehensive customer technical support
* Protects against identity and credit card theft
After a simple install, i loaded it up, looked for updates and gave it a go. It ran fast, and came out with the results. Boy did i have spyware on my system. XoftSpySE deleted all of the junk. This left me quite impressed. Can you compare your own time waste for a few dollars? I then rebooted my PC. What do you know? It ran just like it did before my niece came to stay.
Lessons learned:
- Don’t let my niece surf the web before explaining the situation.
- Why waste my time to do something a software can do in a fraction of it.
- Run XoftSpySE every once in a while. See what it comes up with (you will be surprised).
- Share my experience with you all.
